VITA Students came to us wanting to create a user-generated content competition for their summer campaign to increase social engagement and drive brand awareness. With a mobile-first approach, we created a user-focused, bespoke microsite.
VITA Students are a multi-award winning student accommodation brand. VITA pride themselves on providing luxury student accommodation in some of the UK's largest cities, from Manchester, Liverpool and Sheffield.
VITA wanted to create a targeted media campaign, driven by user-generated content to achieve three main objectives: increasing social engagement, driving brand awareness and increasing quality traffic. To achieve this, VITA wanted us to create a custom UGC competition microsite, complete with social media integration.
We worked with VITA to create a custom built system on the Laravel framework, complete with registration through social media API's and a bespoke admin system to regulate entries and select finalists. The result was a slick user interface to reflect VITA's values, along with a refined user experience that achieved 1200+ submissions in the first four weeks.
Due to the nature of this contest, we felt that it was only right to take a mobile-first approach when designing and building this project. We realised most of the users would be coming from a mobile device and so we wanted to create the best experience possible.
To achieve the best possible user experience, we created four unique illustrations to work as a visual guide, taking the user through the process of registration and submitting an entry.
We paid close attention to the UX of this project right from the beginning, working from the ground up, we started with low-fidelity wireframes, working on to functioning mockups and then on to the final build.1
We wanted to focus on creating a smooth, fluid experience for the user to maximise the number of submissions. We heavily focused on the UX of this project to create a product that anyone will be able to use fluently. The results speak for itself, with 1200+ submissions in the first 4 weeks of the contest running.2
It was important that this contest was accessible to everyone across all devices. Despite taking a mobile-first approach, we wanted the desktop layout to feel equally and immersive and engaging.3
Through the use of social media API's, we allowed users to enter the contest from Facebook, Twitter and Instagram profiles. This enhanced the user experience by taking away the typical sign up process and encouraged submissions.4
In order for VITA to have total control over the entries to this contest, we developed a bespoke admin area where entries can be approved, denied, removed and selected as finalists. This allowed for the contest to be easily and efficiently regulated.5
The contest has now come to a close, however, you can still view all the pages from the site here.
